22/ September/2018. |
On 22 September, we have watched the film of Robinson Crusoe which was directed by Luis Bunuel. Robinson Crusoe is a novel by Daniel Defoe. The story has been based on the life of Alexander Selkirk. Who lived for four years on a pacific island, which was renamed 'Robinson crusoe'.
If we talk about differences between film and original Novel, we can find that there is no larger difference between movie and Novel but , we can find that film was no so longer so that many scenes were not covered by film director in film of Robinson Crusoe. In novel we find I think 2-3 sea voyages , while in film we can see only last voyage through that Robinson Crusoe reaches at the Island. In novel there is description about Robinson's father’s wish that he develop his career in law and his parents don’t want that he go for voyage. But in movie we can’t find any information about his family. So we can say that this version of film is not much appropriate to original novel but, most of major scenes from novel is covered by Director in his film.

Island where Robinson reaches |
In film we find some major themes like:
• Adventure
• Progress
• Patriarchal society
• Master slave relationship
Let's look in which scene it is presented:
1) Adventure:
When film starts we see that it starts with sea voyage of Robinson Crusoe and he becomes victim of storm during his voyage. Many critical condition faced by Robinson during his journey. We can say that it is his adventure to face any problematic situation. When he reaches on island he is alone on island. He spends twenty eight year of his life on this island. When on island at sea shore he finds footprint of human being, he becomes afraid and matches it with his foot print. He cultivates his new life on island and I can say that to stay alone it is not as just like silly matter , it is Adventureful action for Robinson Crusoe. His investment on island also one part of his adventure.
2) Progress:
If we talk about process we can say that Robinson progressed a lot on island. When he first comes on island at that time island was as like bare. After his arrival he makes some changes on island. He builds a hut for his residence and gathers some essential things from ship. He has pet animals like: Dog and cat as like his family members. He also cultivates farming on island. He becomes religious and believes in God and started reading Bible. One of the thing I noticed during film screening that:
“ Robinson keeps a diary and note down what happens during the day”.
3) Patriarchal society:
We can not clearly say that film shows Patriarchal society but, if we look at the characters of the this film we find that there is no any female characters we can find in this film. All roles are performed by only Male characters. One thing we find that women's dress mentioned in film but, I don’t know in which perspective it was shown. I can just say that woman’s dress weared by Friday and at that time Robinson feels something emotional and he commanded Friday to avoid it . At that time we can say that some feelings of Robinson's was attached with that dress. Our madam said that that dress reminded Robinson his wife.4) Master-slave Relationship:
• In this movie we find Robinson as master and Friday as Slave. Robinson’s behaviour with Friday is like cruel. He talks with Friday in higher tone as like his boss or master. He reaches Friday differences between white and Black people. He first teaches him ' Master ' word. So we can say that this movie is about voyage and adventure of Crusoe.Even without any person he spends his life on island that scene touched me very well because we never think about life without any person. Even in absence of one or two members of family we feel something lonely and awkward. So it is admirable for Robinson that he has spent twenty eight years of his life without his family and also without any other person.
• So at last I want to say that this movie inspired me lot that nothing impossible without anything or anybody . If we decide to do something and if we try to make it fulfil it will surely fulfil. But attempt is necessary for any work.
